Although Thales of Miletus was historically the first to experiment with it in its static form (he observed that the friction of an amber rod on cat hair creates a phenomenon of attraction of light bodies on the shaft), it was not until the end of the 19th century that the theorization and the real understanding of electricity became effective.

Today, the better control and rationalization of this resource have made it essential for the realization of the majority of industrial applications, but also for the satisfaction of the fundamental needs of individuals. For modern society, electricity has become as important as running water. It's hard to imagine life without it. A fundamental question then arises: Can electricity be replaced?

What could a world without electricity look like?

Imagine today's world living without electricity clearly gives a dismal picture comparable to the scenarios of Hollywood movies about the end of the world. By way of comparison, we all know the anxiety and the feeling of powerlessness that animate us when there is a simple power outage for example. It is easier to see what it would be like if the whole Earth were to remain without electrical energy available for an indefinite period of time.

The world as we know it now is 99.99% dependent on electrical energy. If it is not at the level of production, this resource necessarily intervenes in the level of consumption of the vast majority of goods and services (payment, television, computer, smartphones, smartphones, kitchen appliances, etc.).

It is often said that the future of the world would be greatly compromised if oil reserves were exhausted, it would be even more so if it became impossible overnight to produce or distribute electrical energy. Currently, it is in fact the only valid “fuel” if we had to do without black gold for the operation of the engines equipping the range of agricultural machines, war machines or means of travel that we know.

On a daily basis, we need electricity to light up our living space, do the dishes, wash the laundry, heat up, cool spaces, refresh spaces, start a car, cook, communicate remotely, operate health centers, industries, administrations, food supply circuits and other basic necessities...

Without electricity, there would be no Internet connection and you would not be reading this text. In an ultra-connected age where most human beings have made social media presence a norm, it's easy to see the harmful psychological consequences this would have on the lives of many of us.

At the same time, the paralysis of the Internet and the lack of information caused by the absence of electricity would shake all our consumption patterns by causing real chaos on the labor market.

All electricity-based devices would suddenly become useless: household appliances, smartphones, computers, smart watches, electric cars, Internet boxes, DVD players, DVD players, televisions, printers... No more Family movie nights, games with friends, parties with loud music for the people who love this entertainment so much.

This energy has simplified our lives so much and improved our comfort in carrying out a multitude of essential tasks that its disappearance would simply make humanity helpless in the face of all the problems that it must face. We would risk abruptly returning to a configuration almost similar to that of the Middle Ages. Globalization would no longer be sustainable, with each country or individual trying to get by as best as they can, even if the interests of their neighbours had to be trampled upon.

However, in this grim picture, all hope is not lost for humanity. We can count on our exceptional ability to adapt which has allowed us to find solutions each time to better bounce back from the constraints of all kinds that have arisen throughout our evolution.

Is it possible to replace electricity?

The majority of people will answer no to this question. Indeed, before thinking about replacing a resource, you must first find its perfect substitute. That is what has not yet been done. Despite the phenomenal scientific advances in the field, another energy that has such practical uses and a mode of transport similar to electric current has not yet been invented.

Electricity is a unique force in its kind that it is impossible to replace intrinsically. In the years to come, scientific experiments could lead to the discovery of another different natural phenomenon capable of operating a variety of objects. However, the current state of affairs suggests that this horizon is, at least, very far away. The associated investments in research and development will also be colossal.

On the other hand, it should be noted that more and more technologies are emerging to guarantee the operation without electrical energy of equipment whose use is normally subject to a connection to the mains.

We can cite for example radiative cooling refrigerators, solar furnaces, solar showers, thermal insulation using natural building materials... The big problem is that these solutions without electricity are generally more expensive and less practical. For example, a radiative cooled refrigerator that uses natural convection currents in water requires a minimum of 250 L to enter the cooling circuit. It doesn't really optimize space if you have to install this device in your kitchen.

In addition, we will realize that electricity will always come into play for the manufacture of the accessory that works without this energy: lighting the production room, powering robots, powering other assembly accessories... The reality is that the number of objects that can currently function without electrical energy is extremely small.

So what should we do?

If replacing electricity at present is not possible, it is important to optimize the current methods of production, distribution and consumption of this resource.

Fossil fuels such as natural gas or coal must gradually give way to alternative energies that are more environmentally friendly. The development of renewables such as solar, wind, hydraulic or Biomass must become the priority to produce electricity without the Earth paying a heavy price. Consumers must also constantly seek to reduce their energy bills.

The answers to your questions

How do I get a tax exemption?

Some businesses may obtain a partial or total exemption from the TICFE or the TICGN, depending on their activity and energy intensity. The support of an expert makes it possible to identify the eligibility criteria and to put together the file.

Which taxes are particularly relevant for farms?

Farms are subject to taxes such as TICFE or TICGN. Sirenergies verifies their application, identifies cases of exemption and accompanies the procedures to reduce the tax burden.

What are the PP1 and PP2 alert days?

These are signals sent by RTE during periods of tension on the electrical network. The Sirenergies tool informs you in real time to anticipate your uses.

Is Bellenergie Business electricity really green?

Yes. The supplier guarantees an offer 100% renewable via the official Guarantees of Origin (GO) mechanism.

For the most demanding companies, the offer GREENVOLT+ ensures very low carbon intensity electricity, sourced exclusively from independent French producers (hydraulic, wind, solar).

What are the main taxes applicable?

Among the taxes include TICFE, TICGN, CTA, CJA and TURPE. They represent a significant part of the bill and vary according to consumption profiles. Understanding them well is essential to optimize costs.

What are the electricity offers offered by bellenergie Business?

The range E @sy is available in four pricing structures to adapt to each risk profile:

  • E @sy Fixed: 100% budget visibility without variation.

  • E @sy Sport: A 100% dynamic offer to take advantage of downside opportunities in real time.
What are the consequences of overpowering?

Exceeding capacity leads to financial penalties and can impact the size of the contract. Adjust the correctly subscribed power makes it possible to avoid these additional costs.

What taxes are particularly relevant to manufacturers?

The industry is concerned by TICFE, TICGN and other contributions that may represent an important part of invoices. Sirenergies identifies cases of exemption and accompanies the procedures to benefit from them.

What are the customer reviews on bellenergie Business's customer service?

In 2025, the supplier had a NPS (Net Promoter Score) of +16 and a note of 4,17/5.

Satisfaction is based on a “zero solicitation” model and 100% in-house customer service in Toulon, guaranteeing proximity and responsiveness that cannot be found with major historical suppliers.

How to optimize taxes and contributions?

Tertiary companies are concerned by taxes such as TICFE or TICGN. Sirenergies checks the accuracy of invoices, identifies possible exemptions, and helps correct errors to sustainably reduce costs.

How to properly define your subscribed power?

The subscribed power must be calculated according to the consumption profile and uses (heating, industrial processes, tertiary equipment). One fine analysis makes it possible to ensure the adequacy between real need and contract.

What are the challenges for tertiary companies?

Tertiary companies must manage their energy costs while guaranteeing the comfort of users (offices, shops, services). Consumption is often linked to heating, air conditioning and lighting, which requires precise monitoring to avoid budgetary excesses.

How to optimize the taxes and contributions of a community?

Communities are subject to taxes such as TICFE or TICGN. Sirenergies analyzes invoices, identifies exemption possibilities and fixes possible errors to reduce the tax burden.

What is the point of following Spot & Forward prices?

This makes it possible to choose the right time to contract, secure your budgets and anticipate increases.

What is the difference between €/MWh and kWh?

The €/MWh is a price unit used in wholesale markets, while kWh is the unit visible on your bills.

What is energy sourcing?

Sourcing consists in identifying and analysing the offers of several electricity and gas suppliers. This approach makes it possible to obtain contracts adapted to the consumption profile and budgetary constraints of the company.

Why launch an energy tender?

How do I read an electricity or gas bill?

One invoice consists of several elements: consumption, supplier share, taxes and contributions. The analysis of each line makes it possible to identify possible errors and to check the consistency with the signed contract.
