EDF in a nutshell

The French company EDF (Électricity de France) was created on April 9, 1946 and is the producer and vendorhistorical of electricity in France. Now 80% owned by the French State, EDF employs more than 165,000 people worldwide. It is one of the main players in the world in its field.

Today, in the face of the climate emergency, the group's main challenges revolve around more responsible low-carbon electricity production; its CAP 2030 project fits perfectly into this logic; and international support for the energy transition.

EDF and its energy mix that is low in CO2 emissions

EDF plays an important role in the renewable energy sector: most of Electricity that it produces comes from nuclear power plants, hydroelectric dams and wind farms spread throughout France.

In 2020, The energy mix of EDF was 97% CO2 neutral:

EDF is also part of an ARENH (Regulated Access to Historic Nuclear Electricity) system which allows its competitors to buy back part of its nuclear production at a preferential rate.

THE ARENA was set up for a transitional period from 2011 to 2025 and aims to distribute the benefits of nuclear electricity between various alternative electricity suppliers. Since the nuclear fleet operated by EDF has already been amortized, its profits must be shared by all actors in the field.
