The production of energy based on fossil materials is a factor in environmental pollution. To play its role in mitigating the impact of fossil fuels on nature, France has put in place various mechanisms including The energy bonus. The latter is based on the system of Energy Saving Certificates (CEE) established by the Pope Act of 13 July 2005, in force since 2006.

SirEnergies explains to you in a few points how premium energy works.

How does the energy bonus work?

The Pope Act (Programming setting out the Energy Policy Guidelines) requires energy and equipment suppliers to play an important role in reducing energy consumption. These players in the energy sector are, among others, distributors of electricity, natural gas, heating oil, fuel and hot or cold appliances. They give consumers aid in the form of an energy bonus, among others, and in return receive energy saving certificates (or C2E).

A CEE is proof that a supplier has actually taken action in favor of the energy transition. The energy bonus is obtained for the financing of energy renovation work and/or thepurchase of low-power devices.

Since 2015, a new type of EEC has been available and is aimed at the most modest households. These are CEEs for fuel poverty that are traded on different markets at different prices (source: Ademe.fr). Energy premiums for low-income households are being increased.

Energy bonus: who can benefit from it?

The energy bonus is attributable to all French households, regardless of income. Households qualified as modest by Anah (National Housing Agency) are still a bit more privileged than others. In addition to individuals, businesses are eligible for the energy bonus. In addition, local authorities can benefit from this aid granted by energy suppliers.

Energy bonus: what types of work are eligible?

The prerequisite for taking advantage of the energy bonus is to carry out work or installations. promoting energy optimization. In this category of work, we have:

  • the insulation of the attic, the roof, the walls and/or the floors,
  • the installation of heating systems at low temperature or using biomass,
  • The installation of a heat pump,
  • the installation of a ventilation system improving the energy performance of the building,
  • the change of old windows or shutters into insulating glazing,
  • the installation of photovoltaic panels, etc.

However, to be eligible for the energy bonus, your energy-saving work must be executed by an RGE craftsman (Recognized Environmental Guarantor).

What is the amount of the energy bonus?

The amount of an energy bonus is not standard. That varies depending on different factors such as:

  • your income,
  • the characteristics of the building concerned,
  • the work carried out,
  • the materials used,
  • the impact of the work on energy consumption.

There is no ceiling for the energy bonus which is paid by bank transfer, by check, by voucher, by discount, etc.

What is the procedure for obtaining an energy bonus?

To qualify for the energy bonus, you must carry out an approach that begins before the start of work. The ideal is to carry out a Energy balance of your building in order to know exactly the levels at which you need to act. Once the necessary work has been identified, send your request for an energy bonus to a supplier ready to offer it to you. After receiving the supplier's agreement, entrust the work to an RGE professional.

We recommend that you date and sign the quotation in a handwritten manner. Within 6 months following the end of the work, send the supplier the invoice and a declaration of honor of the craftsman. If you are applying for the energy premium for the most modest households, sending a tax receipt will be essential. If your application is complete, you should receive your energy bonus in the following weeks.

What assistance can you combine with the energy bonus?

The energy bonus has the advantage of being can be combined with other aids dedicated to energy renovation work, in particular:

  • MaPrime Rénov'
  • VAT reduced to 5.5%
  • the eco-loan at zero rate (eco-PTZ).

MaPrime Rénov' has been in place since the 1Er January 2020 to replace the CITE (Energy Transition Tax Credit). Completed in October 2020, this thermal renovation financing system is accessible to households, to landlords and co-owners. As for VAT at a reduced rate, you are entitled to it if you are an owner (occupant or lessor), tenant or occupant free of charge. Syndicates of co-owners and civil real estate companies can also claim it.

As for the eco-PTZ, it is intended for owner-occupants or lessors and valid in co-ownership. Civil companies that are not subject to corporate tax and that have at least one natural person as a partner can also benefit from it. Combining the energy bonus with at least one of these grants will be a huge boost for the financing your energy-saving work.

The answers to your questions

Who can benefit from optimizing invoices and taxes?

All businesses, from SMEs to large organizations, can benefit from this service. Les local authorities also find it a lever to better control their budgets.

How to optimize the taxes and contributions of a community?

Communities are subject to taxes such as TICFE or TICGN. Sirenergies analyzes invoices, identifies exemption possibilities and fixes possible errors to reduce the tax burden.

Which taxes are particularly relevant for farms?

Farms are subject to taxes such as TICFE or TICGN. Sirenergies verifies their application, identifies cases of exemption and accompanies the procedures to reduce the tax burden.

What taxes are particularly relevant to manufacturers?

The industry is concerned by TICFE, TICGN and other contributions that may represent an important part of invoices. Sirenergies identifies cases of exemption and accompanies the procedures to benefit from them.

How to properly define your subscribed power?

The subscribed power must be calculated according to the consumption profile and uses (heating, industrial processes, tertiary equipment). One fine analysis makes it possible to ensure the adequacy between real need and contract.

What are the challenges for tertiary companies?

Tertiary companies must manage their energy costs while guaranteeing the comfort of users (offices, shops, services). Consumption is often linked to heating, air conditioning and lighting, which requires precise monitoring to avoid budgetary excesses.

What are the energy challenges for manufacturers?

Industrial companies consume large volumes of energy for their production processes. They have to deal with the volatility of prizes, multi-site management and specific taxes. Controlling costs is essential to remain competitive.

What are the consequences of overpowering?

Exceeding capacity leads to financial penalties and can impact the size of the contract. Adjust the correctly subscribed power makes it possible to avoid these additional costs.

What is the point of following Spot & Forward prices?

This makes it possible to choose the right time to contract, secure your budgets and anticipate increases.

How do I read an electricity or gas bill?

One invoice consists of several elements: consumption, supplier share, taxes and contributions. The analysis of each line makes it possible to identify possible errors and to check the consistency with the signed contract.

Why change energy suppliers?

Changing suppliers can allow you to benefit from more competitive prices, adapted services or better contractual conditions. Thanks to sourcing, change is happening without interruption of supply.

What are the concrete benefits for tertiary companies?

Les profits include a direct reduction in bills, strengthened budgetary forecasting and better control of consumption. Businesses gain visibility and efficiency thanks to adapted tools.

What are the main taxes applicable?

Among the taxes include TICFE, TICGN, CTA, CJA and TURPE. They represent a significant part of the bill and vary according to consumption profiles. Understanding them well is essential to optimize costs.

What is the difference between €/MWh and kWh?

The €/MWh is a price unit used in wholesale markets, while kWh is the unit visible on your bills.

How to optimize taxes and contributions?

Tertiary companies are concerned by taxes such as TICFE or TICGN. Sirenergies checks the accuracy of invoices, identifies possible exemptions, and helps correct errors to sustainably reduce costs.

Why launch an energy tender?

What is energy sourcing?

Sourcing consists in identifying and analysing the offers of several electricity and gas suppliers. This approach makes it possible to obtain contracts adapted to the consumption profile and budgetary constraints of the company.

How do I get a tax exemption?

Some businesses may obtain a partial or total exemption from the TICFE or the TICGN, depending on their activity and energy intensity. The support of an expert makes it possible to identify the eligibility criteria and to put together the file.

What are the energy challenges of the agricultural sector?

Farms must deal with high seasonal needs (greenhouse heating, irrigation, storage) and high volatility of prizes. Controlling these costs is essential to maintain profitability and secure the business.

What are the advantages of sourcing?

Sourcing offers better visibility on the market and promotes the selection of competitive contracts. It helps to reduce the risks associated with price volatility and to optimize the energy budget.
