Brussels (Belgium), July 29, 2025 (AFP) - The trade agreement sealed with Donald Trump does not “in any way contradict” the European Union's climate goals, the European Commission said on Tuesday, while Europe has committed to importing 750 billion dollars in American energy over three years.
“The ambition to increase energy imports from the United States only concerns the next three years”, to make up for the planned end of gas imports from Russia, underlined a Commission spokesperson, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen before the press. “This agreement does not in any way contradict our medium and long-term decarbonization goals,” she said, despite criticism from environmental advocates.
