🚨 Energy crisis: Price capped at 180€/MWh for producers - We explain everything to you

Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, announced yesterday, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 a ceiling on the price of electricity for producers at 180€/MWh, as provided for in the mechanism approved last week by the European Union's energy ministers.

🚨This ceiling only applies to energy producers for electricity that is not produced from gas.
It does not apply to your energy purchases from suppliers.
This system will allow the State to recover the “rent”, i.e. the difference between the production price and the market price. This should bring in between 5 and 7 billion euros. This sum will be used to finance aid to businesses and communities in difficulty due to sharp increases in their energy bills.

Bruno Le Maire said:

“There is no reason for energy producers to take advantage of crazy market prices. As much as I am opposed to a new tax, I will be intractable about recovering this pension. Suppliers will not escape the patrol.”

“We see no reason why energy producers should take advantage of this surge in energy to build a rent based on crazy market prices.”

The mechanism will be transcribed in a government amendment in the 2023 PLF (Finance Bill). It will concern all electricity producers in France (renewable energies, nuclear, run-of-river dams and lignite). Gas and coal are not affected.
