🚨 Energy crisis: New measures to support businesses

A meeting was held this Wednesday, October 5, 2022 between Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Energy Transition, Roland Lescure, Deputy Minister in charge of Industry, Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate in charge of Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade, Crafts and Tourism and energy suppliers and their federations.

New measures to support businesses

On the occasion of this meeting, the French State announced several measures to support energy-consuming businesses:

  • The extension in 2023 and the coming simplification of subsidies for the payment of electricity and gas bills for businesses that consume large amounts of energy;
  • The establishment of a State guarantee to reduce the risk of default by an energy supplier's client company. This guarantee will reduce suppliers' requirements for collateral and security deposits when signing supply contracts.
  • The publication (coming soon) by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) Of a electricity reference prices for several professional consumer profiles.

25 commitments to help consumers cope with the energy crisis

Several suppliers have committed themselves to a charter that includes no less than 25 commitments to help consumers deal with the energy crisis. It contains several important points:

  • Warn customers, businesses and local authorities of the end of the validity of their contract two months in advance ;
  • Act, under certain conditions, in provider of last resort for businesses and local authorities by offering at least one contract to all customers who request it;
  • Encourage the implementation of payment facilities for businesses or local authorities who request it and who are experiencing difficulties;
  • Encourage the Competitive tendering by a company or a local authority commercial offers;
  • Favour offers that take into account the challenges of the electrical system, which pay, for example. An erasure capacity when the system is under tension or when there is an incentive to consume less energy;
  • Pass on aid intended for end consumers as soon as possible, such as the extension of energy price barriers to condominiums, including in commercial offers.

Note that this charter covers until April 30, 2024.

Ministers and participants agreed to continue these exchanges in the coming weeks in order to ensure the implementation of these measures and to improve the quality of relationships between suppliers and consumers.
